Kittens

We all know cats like yarn, and recently the kittens were allowed into my work space.  It took no time at all for one to dive into my stash and find something they liked.  Here is Thufir running off with a skein of yarn.

So rather than deal with the disastrous results of a kitten playing with a skein of yarn, I decided to come up with a more durable and safe alternative.

Here we have an inexpensive 100% wool yarn that I know will felt and a mixed fiber yarn that has feltable yarn in it.  Holding the two strands together, I knit a stockinette square.

I did a 3 needle bind of, but any method of sewing up the edges will do.

I didn't want the filling to come out of the holes during the wash, so I used an old stocking to hold the stuffing.  I stretched the stocking over a cup to make stuffing it simpler.

I should be able to make several toys from this one stocking.

Sew up the sides.

This one went through a full cycle and the dryer. The novelty yarn didn't felt as well as I'd hoped, but we still end up with a pretty firm fabric.

Here is the skein Thufir stole next to the finished toy.

And here they are playing with the finished project.

And, she also managed to make me feel much better about my chronic startitis.

So I've cast on another pair of socks even though I have 4 on the needles already! Ha! I even bought some more needles.

Worst Blogger Ever

I can't seem to keep this thing updated. Let's try out posting some pics instead.

This is Inara, AKA Nart, Nara Bug, Narwhal, Narababybuggaboo, "helping" with my Cat Cozy photo shoot. She's very helpful.

Sickness has descended onto our house which is a perfect excuse for sitting in front of the TV all day, snuggled in blankets and knitting. I'm knocking out a few holiday gifts, so it is perfectly legitimate. Nevermind the fact that the kitchen is about to be declared a biohazard and the bedroom looks like something off that show Hoarders.

Still no knitting?

We had a good Holiday and are trying to get back int o the groove of things. Today, that means trying to finish laying the floor in the hallway. It's not fun, but I'll be glad when it's finished. I plan to block off some serious knitting time this week, though. Really. I mean it.

Poor neglected blog

Wow. I would love to say I have been productive in the last few months while I ignored knitting and blogging, but alas, I wasn't. I am mostly done with my tax classes, so other that the holidays (which I prefer to ignore anyway), I have some time until January when the tax season begins.
I hope to finally photograph and get all my FOs posted on Etsy. Cat bed business is dead, so I may revamp that, too. I've way too much yarn and not enough time. It's not like I've ever prioritized cleaning the house, but I need to find balance.
